About Jess

Jess preparing to take a picture at Shangri-La outside of Hillsborough, NC. She is trained in the martial arts and knows how to do this without hurting herself, don't worry.

Jess is a 21-year-old, 5′ 8″  North Carolinian.  A lifelong autodidact, she spends her time playing various instruments, composing, writing, reading, working with animals, growing organic herbs and vegetables, traveling, and learning everything humanly possible about the Spanish language.  After spending November in southern Colorado writing a collection of stories, poetry, and essays, she is currently back in her hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina scheming up a book for teens and young adults on how to convince their parents to let them conduct their own higher education.

Jess’ passion for lifelong learning, creativity, adventure, and dream-catching stemmed from her parents’ never ceasing encouragement to go after what she wanted, Grace Llewellyn’s famous Teenage Liberation Handbook, and a final kick in the butt from Blake Boles and Abbi Miller, founders of Unschool Adventures.  She now wants to help enlighten others to the world out there and encourage to go and live their dreams.
